Behind Pause Point: How a Therapist and a Nurse Built a Real-Time Safety Net for the Nervous System

The Gap Between the Therapy Office and Real Life

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LENS Neurofeedback Provider, and former EMT, I spent years helping clients navigate chronic nervous system dysregulation, burnout, and executive dysfunction. But every week, I hit the exact same clinical wall. Clients would leave my office feeling grounded, clear, and regulated, only to step right back into the noise of modern life. By the time their stress spiked—whether from an overwhelming work inbox, sensory overload, or a panic response—they forgot every single somatic tool we practiced. Cognitive tools fail when you are already redlining. I realized we didn't just need more therapy hours; we needed a real-time safety net that met people where life actually happens.

Behind Pause Point: How a Therapist and a Nurse Built a Real-Time Safety Net for the Nervous System
And that is how Pause Point was born!

Merging Clinical Somatics with Real-World Nursing

That gap is where Pause Point was born. I teamed up with my co-founder, Jill Rossi, nurse—an experienced nurse and mom who understands the physical realities of stress, shift work, and the lived experience of ADHD. Together, we brought two distinct yet complementary worlds to the table: clinical somatic therapy and front-line healthcare expertise. Jill knew firsthand how traditional mental health tools fall short for neurodivergent brains and high-stress professionals. We asked ourselves a simple question: What if we could leverage the technology already sitting on our bodies to catch physiological stress before it turns into a total crash?

Building a Zero-Friction Apple Watch Stress Tracker

We didn't want to create another habit-tracker app that required manual logging, long questionnaires, or extra cognitive load. When your nervous system is trapped in fight-or-flight, the last thing you need is another task on your to-do list. Working alongside expert developers, we built Pause Point as a passive, zero-friction Apple Watch application. By constantly analyzing underlying physiological metrics like Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Pause Point acts as an external circuit breaker. The moment your body enters acute stress, it delivers a subtle, silent haptic nudge to your wrist—acting as a gentle physical reminder to take a 15-second somatic reset.

From Emergency Care to Everyday Nervous System Support

My journey started on overnight EMT shifts, navigating emergency situations where real-time physiological response meant everything. Today, as a practice owner at Eos Health Center, a health-tech founder, and a mother of two, I know how easily life can overstimulate our biological wiring. Pause Point wasn't built in a tech vacuum; it was built by a therapist and a nurse who live this work every single day. Our mission is to strip away the stigma around stress management and give students, parents, and professionals stigma-free, biological tools that protect their well-being in real time.
